NCCE, CHRAJ urge women to lead fight against corruption

By Yussif Ibrahim

Juaben (Ash), Oct. 9, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) have urged women in the Juaben Municipality to take an active role in promoting accountability, transparency and the rule of law.

They said women, as influential members of families, workplaces and community groups, could contribute significantly to efforts to curb corruption and promote responsible citizenship.

The call was made during a civic education engagement organised by the NCCE’s Juaben Municipal Directorate in collaboration with CHRAJ to educate women on the importance of upholding the rule of law and resisting corrupt practices.

Mr. Kodjo Adjormadoh, Juaben Municipal Director of the NCCE, said the rule of law should be reflected in the everyday conduct of citizens and not be regarded solely as the responsibility of state institutions.

He encouraged the participants to respect the rights of others, obey the law, reject bribery, and report suspected wrongdoing through the appropriate channels.

Mr. Emmanuel Manu Agyemang, Juaben Municipal Director of CHRAJ, highlighted the importance of integrity and accountability in promoting good governance.

He urged the women to discourage corrupt practices in their homes, workplaces, associations and communities while encouraging others to act with honesty and responsibility.

The participants also discussed challenges that discouraged citizens from reporting corruption, including fear of retaliation, limited knowledge of reporting procedures, and the perception that corrupt practices had become widespread.

The engagement emphasised the need for increased public awareness of reporting mechanisms and the collective responsibility of citizens to protect the integrity of public institutions.

Participants were encouraged to share the knowledge acquired with their families and other community members to broaden public understanding of the rule of law and anti-corruption measures.

The programme was organised with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Ministry of Finance and the European Union.

It formed part of broader efforts to strengthen civic participation and promote accountability, transparency, and respect for the rule of law.
