Nutekpor (V/R), Oct. 3, GNA – The Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) is strengthening Ghana’s maritime security training capacity through specialised instructor development, following the successful completion of a Civilian Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) Training of Trainers (T-O-T) Course.
The course, organised by the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) of NAVTRAC, was designed to enhance participants’ technical knowledge, operational understanding and instructional capabilities to enable them to effectively train personnel in civilian VBSS procedures.
The course concluded with a closing ceremony on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the SMOPS Auditorium at NAVTRAC, Nutekpor.
Naval Captain Michael Cudjoe, Commanding Officer of SMOPS and Guest of Honour, commended the participants for their commitment and dedication throughout the training.
He urged them to translate the knowledge and skills acquired into practical value within their respective areas of responsibility, while maintaining the professional standards required of personnel engaged in maritime security training.
Naval Captain Cudjoe also encouraged the participants to pursue continuous professional development and disseminate the knowledge gained to other personnel, noting that effective training remained critical to building operational readiness and promoting safe and professional conduct during maritime operations.
The training equipped participants with a deeper understanding of the principles, procedures and operational considerations associated with civilian VBSS activities, while preparing them to serve as instructors capable of transferring those competencies to other personnel.
The programme forms part of efforts to build a sustainable pool of qualified trainers within the maritime security sector and improve the capacity of personnel to respond effectively to operational demands.
