Wenchi, (Bono), Oct 13, GNA – The Most Reverend Professor Paul Kwabena Boafo, the immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, has praised the church and the Wenchi Traditional Council for establishing the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School.

Established in October 1, 1963, he lauded the school’s immeasurable contributions towards building the human resource development of the nation.

He explained that with support from the church, the late Osagyefo Ampem Abrefah More Bediako IV, established the school with the late Rev Peter Howard as its first headmaster with a student population of only 67 boys.

Mt Rev Prof Boafo noted that since then the school had churned out useful products, contributing towards accelerated national development.

Speaking at its maiden Founder’s Day celebration at Wenchi in the Bono Region, Mt Rev Prof Boafo said presently the school had about 2,000 student population including visually impaired students.

It was on the theme: “Investing our future, improving infrastructure for academic excellence” and recognized and appreciated the contributions of some key stakeholders towards the school’s progressive growth and development.

Mt Rev Prof Boafo indicated that the school could pride itself as the first in the country to integrate and admit the visually impaired students.

However, he mentioned inadequate furniture and physical infrastructure development including poor roofing and dormitories as some of the pressing challenges confronting the school which required urgent attention.

Mt Rev Prof Boafo appealed for support towards completing the stalled dining hall, assembly and administration block projects as well as the abandoned boys’ and girls’ dormitories projects.

Mr Koomson Ampa, an alumnus, who spoke on behalf of the Old Students Association of the school appealed to past students and stakeholders to assist the school to improve its physical infrastructure development.
