MMDAs directed to broadcast Assembly meetings in local languages

Ho (V/R), Oct. 3, GNA – Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, says President John Dramani Mahama has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to organise accountability series to account directly to the people on their stewardship.

He said the directive followed the President’s accountability engagements with citizens across the regions, which provided platforms for government to inform the people about its performance and development initiatives.

Mr Ayariga disclosed this when he addressed the 2026 Asogli Te Za celebration in Ho.

He said the Ministry had also directed all MMDAs to organise the statutory meetings required under the Local Governance Act and ensure that proceedings were broadcast on local FM stations in the local languages of the respective communities.

According to him, the initiative was aimed at ensuring that citizens were adequately informed about decisions, programmes and activities taking place within their assemblies.

He said broadcasting the meetings would enable residents to follow discussions on development projects and other initiatives, while creating opportunities for them to participate more effectively in local governance.

Mr Ayariga said the measure would deepen accountability and strengthen collaboration between local authorities and residents, stressing the need for citizens to understand the work of their assemblies and contribute to community development.

He urged residents to use the platforms to seek clarification, ask relevant questions, and work with the assemblies to address development challenges and advance the wellbeing of their communities.
