Accra, Oct. 14, GNA – Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has directed the immediate suspension of Mr Zakaria Abdulai, Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region, pending investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.

The directive follows an investigation by JoyNews and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni into the alleged misconduct.

A statement issued by Mr Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister, said the Minister had directed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend the headmaster while investigations continued.

The Minister had also requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to commence investigations into the matter.

The statement said the Ministry of Education and the GES would not tolerate or condone such alleged misconduct in any educational institution in the country.

It emphasised that parents and guardians entrusted their children to teachers with the expectation that they would protect and safeguard them, rather than subject them to abuse.

The statement reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that educational institutions remained safe environments for students.
