Kadjebi (O/R), Oct. 14, GNA – The Kadjebi District in the Oti Region will on Thursday, October 15, mark the International Day of the Girl Child with an educational programme involving schoolchildren from across the district.
One hundred and twenty learners from 11 schools are expected to participate in the event, which seeks to promote girls’ education, protect their rights and raise awareness of the challenges confronting the girl child.
Madam Emma Asilevi, the Kadjebi District Girl Child Education Officer, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview.
She said the event was initially scheduled for October 11, 2026, the official date for the annual observance, but had been rescheduled to October 15 because October 11 fell on a Sunday.
Madam Asilevi said the celebration would provide an opportunity to educate learners on the importance of girls’ education, equal opportunities and the need to protect girls from discrimination and other forms of abuse.
She urged parents, teachers and community members to support girls to remain in school and pursue their educational aspirations, stressing that educating girls was essential to their personal development and the progress of society.
The International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually on October 11 to promote girls’ rights and draw attention to the challenges they face, including gender-based discrimination, violence and barriers to education.
The observance also calls for increased investment in girls’ empowerment and the creation of an enabling environment in which every girl can access quality education, healthcare, protection and equal opportunities to reach her full potential.
The Kadjebi District celebration is expected to reinforce the importance of education and encourage stakeholders to take collective responsibility for the welfare and development of the girl child.
“End Girl Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights” is the 2026 official theme for the celebration.
