Accra, Oct. 9, GNA – The Melcom Care Foundation has donated 1,000 packs of meals to four selected orphanages and the Accra Rehabilitation Centre as part of efforts to support vulnerable people and promote social welfare.
The initiative which forms part of the Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), began on Monday at the Osu Children’s Home, followed by the Teshie Children’s Home on Tuesday, Blissful Children’s Home on Wednesday and Nyamedua Children’s Home on Thursday, before concluding at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre on Friday.
The team, led by Madam Sonya Sadhwani, Group Executive Director of Melcom Group, and Mr Joseph Kpormegbey, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Group, distributed 200 packs of cooked meal to each of the five beneficiary institutions over the week-long outreach programme.

Touching on the initiative, Mr Kpormegbey said it was inspired by Mr Bhagwan Ramchandani, the late chairman of the company, who believed in giving back to society.
He said the Foundation recognised the challenges involved in running children’s homes and rehabilitation centres and considered the donation a way of supporting the institutions to care for their residents.
“It’s not easy running a children’s home or a rehabilitation centre. That is why we believe that giving them the support will go a long way to assist them,” he said.
Mr Kpormegbey said the Foundation had taken note of additional needs raised by staff of the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, particularly teaching and building materials, and would consider providing further assistance.
“Melcom is always giving out. Melcom is always doing its corporate social responsibility. So once we have heard them, we have taken it in good faith, and we will do well to come back and then give them the necessary assistance that they need,” he said.
Mr Eric Badujiwa, Assistant Chief Technical Instructor at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, expressed appreciation to the Foundation, saying the gesture demonstrated that people outside the institution recognised and valued its work.
He said the donation would motivate staff to continue performing their duties diligently, while appealing for further support to address the Centre’s needs.
“We appreciate the donation and pray that God richly blesses the donors and replenishes what they have given us,” he said.
Mr Badujiwa called for further engagement with the Foundation to identify areas where additional assistance could make a meaningful difference.
