‘Big Push’: Road Minister cautions contractors against compromising quality

Fiapre, (Bono), Oct 9, GNA-Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has cautioned contractors executing the ‘Big Push’ Road Infrastructure programme across the length and breadth of the country against ‘compromising’ quality standards.

He emphasised that funding for the ‘Big Push’ was not a problem and asked the contractors to speed up. However, ensure that the road projects meet the required specifications and quality.

Mr Agbodza gave the caution when he inspected the progress of work on the 34-kilometer Sunyani Outer Ring Road project at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality, where the contractors had started major asphaltic works on the project.

President John Dramani Mahama performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the 34-km Sunyani Outer Ring Road project on December 21, 2025, under the “Big Push” to boost economic growth, reduce congestion, and improve connectivity in the regional capital.

Mr Agbodza commended Kofi Job Company Limited for the progress of work so far and encouraged contractors to execute the ‘Big Push’ projects to continue working hard.

“The contractors themselves are beneficiaries of these projects. They aren’t doing it for us, we aren’t doing it for them, but we are doing it for ourselves”, he stated.

Mr Agbodza indicated that other regions and communities were also “crying” for their fair share of the ‘Big Push’ road projects and cautioned the contractors against shoddy works as well.

“We shouldn’t do things like, we do this one, and in six months’ time we fail then we come and do it again. We do this then we get more resources and then we go and do others too”, he advised.

In an interview, Mr Kofi Kamkam, the Engineer of the Kofi Job Company Limited told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the company remained committed to complete dual-carriage asphaltic road, even before the stipulated period.

He said the project was scheduled to be completed in two years; however, added that with the level of work, it could be completed before the stipulated period.

The road project links communities like Fiapre, Nanketewa, Old Abesim as well as Old Odomase and New Odomase, connecting to the main Sunyani-Berekum and Sunyani-Abesim highways.
