Tema, Oct 11, GNA – The Most Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, the presiding bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana has urged the newly inducted lay president, Mr Alfred Sekyi, to lead the church faithfully within the scope of his divine grace, gifts, and professional background.
Speaking at the induction service held at St. Paul Cathedral in Tema, the Presiding Bishop emphasised that the church’s administrative structure relies on a complementary partnership between the clergy and the laity rather than competition.
Using the biblical text of Acts Chapter 6, where the early apostles appointed deacons to ensure that minority groups and widows were not neglected in daily distributions, underscoring that spiritual leadership requires recognising, valuing, and empowering diverse talents.
He noted that while the apostles maintained their core calling to the ministry of the word and prayer, they deliberately instituted trusted, spiritually mature, and wise individuals to handle administrative and material welfare.
Reflecting on broader societal principles outside the church, the Presiding Bishop drew parallels to national development, noting that sustainable progress relies on continuity, institutional memory, and the inclusion of experienced leaders rather than wholesale dismissals based on partisan politics.
He stated that nations, much like religious institutions, must learn to harness the accumulated skills, knowledge, and expertise of citizens across generations to build effectively.
The service brought together leadership and congregants to celebrate the smooth transition and commissioning of the new leadership for the advancement of the church’s mission.
