Wenchi (Bono), Oct. 29, GNA – The Bono Regional Office of the Lands Commission in collaboration with the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL), has trained the members of the Wenchi Traditional Council on the new Land Act 2020 (Act 1036).
The day’s training, the Commission said, sought to enlighten the chiefs and queens of the traditional council and to empower them to adhere to the new Act.
At the opening session of the training at Wenchi in the Bono Region, Mr Ali Ibrahim Agyei, the Board Chairman of the Bono Regional Land Commission, stressed the need to intensify efforts and to create understanding of the Act 1036 among the chiefs and queens.
He said doing so would foster a culture of responsible land ownership and management in the Wenchi Traditional Area.
Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Paramount Chief of the Traditional Area expressed appreciation for the training, and urged the organisers to also intensify public sensitisation on the new Act.
He urged the commission to use radio as an effective tool for the sensitisation, saying radio remained a powerful and readily accessible medium for bridging information gaps among members of the public.
The participants were taken through the Act 1036, key legal provisions, transparency requirements, and accountability, as well as land transactions, customary land secretariats and ground rent collection.
They were also enlightened on land documentation, and digital tools, application for data management and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
