Kumasi, Oct. 1, GNA – Kumasi, the Garden City, has been splashed with the red, white and blue colours of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the city prepares to host the party’s national officers’ election on Saturday.

With barely two days to the NPP National Delegates Conference and Election at the Baba Yara Stadium on October 3, 2026, posters, billboards, flags and other party paraphernalia have taken over the streets of the Metropolis.

They fill almost every available space, from walls and street-light poles to roadsides, transforming the city into a vast display of campaign messages and portraits.

Huge billboards bearing the faces of the various aspirants have sprung up across the metropolis, making a drive through Kumasi feel like a tour of campaign portraits.

At major intersections, party flags are tied to street-light poles, fluttering above passing vehicles and adding to the atmosphere of anticipation ahead of the election.

The colourful displays have also heightened the mood among party supporters, who said the city, widely regarded as a stronghold of the NPP, was ready to host the contest.

The Baba Yara Stadium, the venue for the election, has also been prepared for the occasion.

Its precincts are awash with party colours and posters of the aspirants, while large portraits of the candidates stand prominently in anticipation of the arrival of delegates on Saturday.

Beyond the political activity, the election is also creating business opportunities for traders in the city.

Vendors have stocked up on party souvenirs and other items, hoping to benefit from the influx of delegates, aspirants and supporters expected in Kumasi for the event.

A total of 7,163 delegates from all 16 regions are expected to vote to elect national officers to nine positions.

Forty-five aspirants are contesting the positions of National Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser, National Treasurer and National Communications Director.

The election will be supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), with voting taking place at 31 polling stations.

According to a release issued by the National Officers’ Elections Committee (NOEC), consideration of constitutional amendments will begin at 0900 hours, while voting for the national officers is scheduled to start at 1200 hours.

The release said each delegate seeking to vote must have their name on the delegates’ register and present one valid identification document, namely a Voter ID card, Ghana Card or NPP party card.

Delegates have, therefore, been advised to bring one of the required identification documents and allow sufficient time for verification before voting begins.

The release, signed by the NOEC Chairman, Mr Frederick Opare-Ansah, urged constituency, regional and national officers to bring the notice to the attention of delegates in their respective jurisdictions.

It said punctuality and cooperation would be essential to ensuring the orderly consideration of the constitutional amendments and the smooth conduct of the elections.

For now, the posters continue to multiply, flags flutter and traders prepare for the expected influx of people.

But on Saturday, the campaign portraits that have dominated Kumasi’s streets will give way to the delegates’ ballots as the NPP begins the process of choosing its next crop of national officers.
