Kiev, Oct 5. (dpa/GNA) – A Russian attack triggered a drone alarm in Kiev, after the arrival of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Sunday, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko reporting a strike on the roadway of the North Bridge in the Ukrainian capital.
Klitschko said on Telegram that debris from a downed flying object had fallen onto the roof of a residential building. He had already reported a drone alarm in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Other parts of Ukraine also experienced air-raid warnings due to Russian attacks. Authorities in the Sumy region in north-eastern Ukraine reported five people injured after an attack with a Russian glide bomb, which struck a residential building.
Merz arrived in Kiev by train on Sunday morning. Russia’s Foreign Ministry had previously warned Europeans against travelling to or staying in Ukraine. The chancellor intends to use the visit to pledge further German support to the country under Russian attack, including drones to counter the increasingly fast Russian drones.
Germany is the largest supporter of Ukraine in its struggle against Russia’s war, which has now lasted more than four and a half years. Ukraine, for its part, attacked Russian targets with hundreds of drones, according to the Defence Ministry in Moscow.
