Shama (W/R), Oct. 09, GNA – Mr Haruna Moro Azika, Shama Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is vying for the Western Regional Organiser slot of the party, says he will maintain the 15 parliamentary seats the NDC won in the 2024 elections and capture the remaining two seats held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr  Azika, a dedicated member of the NDC since 2002, said this in a statement as he formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Western Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress.

According to the statement, the decision followed extensive consultations with party elders, Members of Parliament, constituency executives and grassroots groups across the Region.

Mr  Azika stated: “My campaign is built on a simple truth: the party belongs to the people at the polling stations. We must move from a top-down approach to a bottom-up one.”

Touching on the NDC’s record and mission dubbed “Operation 17/17”, the statement said in 2024 the NDC achieved a historic feat in the Western Region by winning 15 out of 17 parliamentary seats.

Mr  Azika expressed pride as the Constituency Chairman to have led the charge to win Shama seat.

“However, our mission is not complete. My mission as Regional Organiser is simple and measurable. To protect the 15 seats we have and capture the remaining two to make it a clean 17/17 for the NDC in 2028,” he said.

On a five-point agenda, Mr Azika said his number one strategy would be unification and discipline, adding that “we cannot go into battle divided and as a unifier, I will bridge gaps, heal wounds and unite every member from the regional to the polling station executive under one goal to clinch victory in 2028.”

The agenda would resource the base and strengthen grassroots structures by channelling resources, logistics and financial support directly to the polling stations and branches to operate effectively.

According to him, he sought to be an impactful but not a powerful organiser, adding that “power seeks to control but impact changes.”

“I am not interested in the trappings of power, but in the impact of our organisation on the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” he said.

On recognition and welfare, the aspiring Regional Organiser, said he was determined to build a culture of appreciation, adding that “a party that does not reward its soldiers cannot win a war.”

The statement added that “we will celebrate our volunteers and ensure that hard work is acknowledged and rewarded. The welfare of our organisers and foot soldiers will be my priority.”

Touching on humility and servant leadership, the aspirant declared a commitment, adding that “we must be humble enough to listen to the grassroots and selfless enough to put the party’s interest above personal ambitions.”

“I am one of you. I started from the branch in 2002. I know how it feels to work without fuel, without money but with love for the NDC. I have walked that path from branch to constituency chairman. I will never forget where I came from,” it said.

The statement therefore appealed to all delegates, especially the grassroots branch executives who formed the majority of the Electoral College, to support Mr  Azika in bringing sanity, structure and soul back to the regional organisation.
