Gomoa Afransi (C/R), Oct 27, GNA – Mr Evans Mark Andoh, Gomoa Central District Coordinating Director (DCD) has assured that Management of the Assembly was poised   to motivate Area Councils and strengthen them to perform their functions effectively.

He said Area Councils were the bedrock of the Assembly and it would do everything possible to give them the necessary assistance to enable members to work assiduously with other stakeholders to boost local governance.

Mr Andoh gave the assurance when he addressed the media after the third ordinary meeting of the third session of the fourth Assembly at Afransi in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.

According to the Director, Area Councils played major roles in the local government structures, hence the need to give them the full support to perform efficiently.

He said he had already met all six sub-committees of the Assembly which facilitated an outlined vision and aspirations to assist Assembly members to contribute their quota to the general development of the District.

He said the Area Councils had been mandated to collect revenue in their respective areas, with part of the revenue   collected to be ceded to them to undertake development projects.

The DCD therefore commended the Assembly members for their cohesion, cooperation, mutual understanding and constructive criticisms offered to help boost socio-economic advancement of the Assembly.

He said the management of the Assembly would continue to work in concert with them, because any decision taken or adopted should be approved by them before becoming law or regulation.

Mr Andoh, was however, not pleased that only two women were elected into the 16-member Assembly to represent the entire women of the Area.

He urged them to actively participate in discussion during proceedings of the Assembly to speak for the welfare of women in the Gomoa Central District.

The DCD stated that plans were underway to put comprehensive programmes in place to encourage women to take active part in District Level Elections to promote their future political careers.

Another potential area the Assembly had taken steps to explore was building permits and property rates to take advantage of the emergence of estate development on the Winneba-Junction / Gomoa Ekwamkrom enclave to step up revenue generation to enhance financial position of the Assembly.

He said the Assembly had decided to create enabling environment   for chiefs and land owners to plot serviced lands in the district with technical support from the Assembly.

It had also planned to make giant strides in revenue collection through an eco-tourism park being constructed by the MP for Gomoa Central, Mr Kwame Asare Obeng for jobs and wealth creation for constituents.
