Accra, Oct. 2, GNA – Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah captured the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight title after defeating Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by majority decision in Lagos, Nigeria.
The championship bout dubbed “Chaos in The Ring” was held as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day on October 1, 2026.
Macbones made a blistering start to the contest, flooring Appah in the opening round with a series of powerful punches that immediately put the Nigerian on the defensive.
The Ghanaian maintained his dominance in the second and third rounds, landing cleaner shots and dictating the pace while keeping his opponent on the back foot.
Appah staged a comeback during the middle rounds as Macbones appeared to lose some energy, allowing the Nigerian to enjoy his best spell of the fight and rally support from the home crowd.
However, Macbones regained his composure in the later rounds and delivered a disciplined performance to close out the contest strongly.
His consistency and effective work rate convinced all three judges, who awarded him a majority decision victory and the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight crown.
For Appah, the defeat brought disappointment as his bid to secure the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight championship ended in defeat before his home supporters.
The victory provides a significant boost for Macbones as he seeks to establish himself among Africa’s leading light heavyweight boxers and pursue bigger opportunities on the international stage.
The Independence Day showdown delivered an entertaining spectacle for boxing fans, with Macbones emerging as the new continental champion after a hard-fought victory.
The Ghanaian boxer is expected to return to the ring in December, where he is likely to defend his title against another Nigerian opponent.
