Accra, Oct.20, GNA – The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) says it is awaiting the release of funds to complete its outstanding mandate and conduct elections for a substantive Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board.
The Committee had proposed October 30, 2026, for the elections, subject to the availability of funding to complete its remaining assignments and successfully conduct the polls.
In a statement signed by Mr Samir Captan, Chairman of the GBIMC, the Committee said the National Sports Authority (NSA) had informed it that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation would provide the necessary operational funding for its work and the elections.
It said the assurance followed correspondence between the NSA and the Committee over funding and arrangements for the electoral process.
The GBIMC subsequently submitted a formal funding request on October 8 to facilitate its outstanding work, finalise the electoral process, conduct the elections and ensure a proper handover to the newly elected GBA administration.
However, the Committee said it was yet to receive the funding and had written to the Minister for Sports and Recreation and the Acting Director-General of the NSA to seek further engagement on the way forward.
Despite the funding situation, the GBIMC said significant progress had been made towards completing the electoral process.
It said vetting of candidates had been completed, while stakeholder validation was ongoing.
The Committee is also reviewing petitions concerning delegate eligibility and representation as part of efforts to ensure what it described as a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process.
The GBIMC urged stakeholders to remain calm and supportive as it continued engagements with the relevant authorities to secure the necessary support to complete its mandate and conduct the elections.
