‎Accra, Oct. 12, GNA – The Ministry of Education is meeting the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to resolve the association’s nationwide strike.

‎The meeting, scheduled for Monday, October 12, is aimed at finding an amicable solution to the dispute.

‎In a statement signed by Mr Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Ministry, said the Government remained committed to addressing organised labour’s concerns through established negotiation mechanisms.

‎It urged the parties to engage in good faith, considering the impact of the strike on students, university communities and the national interest.

‎The statement called on GAUA’s leadership to use the meeting to engage constructively with stakeholders towards an early resolution.

‎It expressed optimism that the discussions would lead to the resumption of normal academic and administrative activities at the affected institutions.

‎GAUA declared the nationwide strike on August 7, 2026, at its National Congress in Sunyani, citing disparities in salaries, allowances and conditions of service between university administrators and teaching staff in public universities.

‎The strike has disrupted university administration and contributed to the postponement of the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year at the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
