Accra, Oct. 12, GNA- Teaching and learning have resumed at schools in Adjen-Kotoku in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region following the suspension of a nationwide teachers’ strike.
A Ghana News Agency (GNA) visit to the area on Monday found teachers and students at the Kotoku Presbyterian Basic School, Kotoku Metropolitan Assembly (M/A) Basic School and Adjen-Kotoku Senior High School.
Mr Richard Doku, Headmaster of the Kotoku M/A Basic School, confirmed the resumption, saying all staff had reported for duty and classes had begun.
Mrs Gloria Odarkor Adjei, Headmistress of the Kotoku Presbyterian Basic School, also confirmed that academic activities had resumed.
The strike was declared on September 25, 2026, by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers over delays in placing promoted staff on their appropriate salary scales and the non-payment of promotion allowances and arrears.
The unions suspended the action on Friday, October 9, following engagements with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, the Council of State and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
They directed members to resume work on Monday, October 12, while discussions on their outstanding grievances continued.
Madam Margaret Tankpui, a parent, urged parents to support the Government’s efforts in the education sector by helping to motivate teachers.
She said teachers played an important role in preparing students for the future and developing the country’s human resources.
