Accra, Oct. 10, GNA – More than 2,000 pupils from eight schools in the La-Nkwantanang Cluster of Schools at Madina are to benefit from a newly refurbished Digital Learning Centre equipped to support training in coding, robotics, animation and artificial intelligence (AI).
The Centre, commissioned on Saturday as part of the 2026 Ecobank Day celebration, is equipped with 26 computers and other accessories to provide pupils with practical digital-learning opportunities.
The initiative forms part of a three-year programme to expand access to digital education in underserved communities.
Mrs Abena Osei-Poku, Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana PLC, said the facility would help pupils develop practical skills, creativity and problem-solving abilities while exploring emerging technologies.
The Centre would offer training in coding, web development, animation, robotics, AI and other emerging technologies, she said.
“If our children are to participate fully in this evolving world, we must give them opportunities to engage meaningfully with technology from an early age,” she said.
The La-Nkwantanang Cluster was selected following an assessment of two potential beneficiary communities, based on its level of need and the opportunity to extend the intervention to pupils across eight schools.
The project involved refurbishing the facility, providing furniture, installing computers and accessories, and equipping the Centre to support digital learning.
Ghana Code Club will support the learning process, with teachers and pupils expected to receive structured digital-skills training.
Mrs Osei-Poku urged teachers to participate actively in the Train-the-Trainer programme to ensure that the facility translated into meaningful learning outcomes.
She also urged school authorities to take ownership of the Centre, protect the equipment and ensure that pupils from all eight schools had regular and equitable access.
The intervention forms part of Ecobank’s wider effort to expand digital education across Africa, with 66 information technology laboratories built or refurbished over the past three years, benefiting more than 46,000 children and young people.
In Ghana, the La-Nkwantanang facility brings to seven the number of Digital Learning Centres established between 2023 and 2026.
Two additional centres completed earlier this year in Kumasi and Wa are expected to be formally commissioned in October.
Mrs Osei-Poku said existing centres were also being assessed and supported with maintenance, including minor structural repairs, painting, air-conditioner servicing and replacement of computer accessories, to ensure their continued functionality.
Addressing the pupils, she encouraged them to use the facility to experiment, ask questions and learn from mistakes.
“The applications, websites, machines and solutions that will shape Africa’s future may one day be designed by some young people sitting here now,” she noted.
