Bediako, Oct. 07, GNA — Nurses at the Bediako Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the Nmlitsakpo Electoral Area of the Kpone Katamanso Municipality have celebrated Family Planning Week with a call on parents and prospective parents to seek professional guidance on family planning.

The celebration, which brought together about 50 parents, was held under the theme “A Choice for All, Agency, Intention and Access”.

Mrs Gloria Korleki Ayittah, Senior Health Officer in charge of the Bediako CHPS, underscored the importance of family planning in promoting the health and well-being of families.

Mrs Ayittah advised parents and prospective parents to seek counselling and education from qualified health professionals whenever they needed information or clarification on family planning.

She said there were several misconceptions surrounding family planning, stressing the need for proper communication, and a good doctor-patient relationship to help dispel them.

She explained that family planning had several methods and encouraged prospective parents to feel free to seek professional advice on the various options available to enable them to make informed choices based on their individual needs.

Mrs Helina Amegashie, Community Health Officer at the Bediako CHPS, also called on opinion leaders, religious leaders and political figures to support efforts aimed at improving quality healthcare delivery for residents.

Mrs Amegashie further stressed the need for increased moral education for adolescents to discourage them from engaging in unprotected sexual activities.

She expressed concern that children were increasingly being exposed to sexual materials, saying parents, guardians and community leaders had important roles to play in providing appropriate guidance and education to young people.

She encouraged stakeholders within the community to work closely with health professionals to promote responsible sexual behaviour and improve access to accurate health information.

The family planning week celebration provided an opportunity for health workers to engage parents on the importance of family planning, address misconceptions, and encourage community members to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
