Accra, Oct. 30, GNA – The Barima Foundation and Breast Care International (BCI)/Peace and Love Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in community health, breast cancer education and free clinical screening in the Kumawu Traditional Area and its surrounding communities.
The partnership seeks to improve access to breast health services through joint health outreach programmes, capacity building for local volunteers, patient referral support, public education and the sharing of best practices.
The signing ceremony was held under the grand patronage of Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, the Paramount Chief of the Kumawu Traditional Area, who appended his signature to the agreement.
Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, the Chief Executive Officer of Breast Care International and Peace and Love Hospital, signing on behalf of her institutions said the agreement provides a framework for both organisations to coordinate community-based interventions aimed at promoting early detection of breast cancer and improving access to healthcare services.
She reaffirmed their commitment to bringing quality breast health education and clinical screening services closer to residents of Kumawu and neighbouring communities.
The partnership builds on an ongoing Breast Cancer Education and Clinical Screening Programme, which had already reached communities, including Bodomase, with plans to extend the initiative to other areas.
The collaboration also seeks to encourage community participation in breast cancer prevention and control, while empowering local volunteers to support health education and referral services.
The Barima Foundation, a community-focused charitable organisation based in Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, works in education, health, women’s empowerment, cultural heritage and other areas of community development.
Barima Kodua said the partnership aligned with the Foundation’s commitment to empowering communities, preserving cultural heritage and inspiring hope.
Breast Care International and Peace and Love Hospital say they were dedicated to breast cancer prevention, control, diagnosis, treatment and community health education in Ghana.
The organisations expressed their commitment to sustaining the collaboration to promote breast cancer awareness, encourage early detection and improve health outcomes in the Kumawu Traditional Area and beyond to save lives.
