Attrato II urges mothers to prioritise child immunisation

By Caleb Kuleke

Ho, Oct. 10, GNA- Mama Attrato II, the Queenmother of Ho-Dome, has appealed to mothers and expectant women to consistently avail their children for routine immunisations to protect them against preventable childhood killer diseases.

She emphasised that the introduction of vaccines decades ago revolutionised public health by drastically reducing infant mortality.

Mama Attrato made the appeal when she visited the Ho Municipal Hospital to sensitise mothers and expectant women on the importance of immunisation in ensuring the health of their babies.

The Queenmother noted that these medical advancements must be embraced by all mothers to safeguard the next generation.

Mama Attrato revealed to Ghana News Agency that her campaign was prompted by a viral TikTok video in which a woman discouraged mothers from vaccinating their babies, falsely claiming that the vaccines were harmful.

“It is critical that we actively disabuse the minds of our citizens, especially pregnant women and lactating mothers, against such dangerous misinformation,” Mama Attrato stated.

She stressed the importance of countering digital falsehoods with facts, highlighting that vaccines remained the most effective shield against devastating childhood illnesses.

The Queenmother used the platform to advocate for comprehensive maternal health.

She advised pregnant women to attend regular antenatal checkups to monitor fetal development, and to also engage in safe, routine physical exercises to boost their health during pregnancy.

Mama Attrato also implored pregnant women to endeavour to deliver at certified healthcare facilities under professional supervision.

She commended the healthcare workers present, urging midwives and nurses to maintain high standards of professionalism.

The Queenmother emphasised that treating expectant mothers with empathy, love, and care was vital to encouraging hospital attendance.

Mama Attrato also lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his decisive stance in rejecting a controversial $109 million health compact proposed by the United States.

The deal, which was intended to replace existing USAID funding, was flatly turned down by Cabinet over clauses that threatened national security and citizens’ privacy.

Mama Attrato, a long-standing advocate for maternal and community healthcare, praised the President’s resolve to put the dignity and sovereignty of Ghanaians above foreign financial assistance.

She noted that while international health partnerships were vital, they must never come at the cost of data privacy or regulatory independence.

Mama Attrato urged Ghanaians to support the Government’s resolve to build a self-reliant healthcare ecosystem capable of protecting both the health and the sovereign rights of its people.

Mrs. Monica Asase, Nurse Manager at the Ho Municipal Hospital, expressed profound gratitude to the Queenmother for using her influential traditional office to champion public health.

Mars Asase reiterated that vaccines protect children against debilitating diseases such as measles, polio, and tuberculosis.

She noted that advocacy from traditional authorities was incredibly powerful in helping healthcare workers debunk social media myths and boost immunisation coverage within the country.
