Assembly member engages residents on development challenges

By Kekeli K. Blamey

Fievie-Kpevikpo (V/R), Oct. 3, GNA – Mr Daniel-Kwasi Gattor, Assembly Member of the Fievie Electoral Area in the South Tongu District, has held a community engagement with residents of Fievie-Kpevikpo to deliberate on key development challenges confronting the community and measures being pursued to address them.

The engagement formed part of efforts by the Assembly Member to maintain direct consultation with constituents, understand their concerns, and provide updates on issues raised by the community.

Residents used the forum to discuss challenges relating to potable water, electricity, and road infrastructure, which they said continued to affect their daily activities and economic opportunities.

Mr Gattor, in response, outlined steps taken through engagements with the District Assembly, development partners and other relevant stakeholders to seek practical solutions to the concerns.

On potable water, he said the lack of a reliable source remained one of the community’s major challenges, particularly as residents depended on the local dam stream to meet their water needs.

He disclosed that negotiations with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) were at an advanced stage for the establishment of a treatment system for the dam stream to make the water safer for domestic use.

Mr Gattor said the proposed intervention was intended to provide an immediate response to the water challenge while efforts continued to secure a more sustainable potable water supply for the community.

On electricity, he said measures had been taken to facilitate the inclusion of Fievie-Kpevikpo in the Self-Help Rural Electrification Programme (SHEP).

He said the move was part of efforts to bring electricity to the community and create an environment conducive to improved household welfare, small-scale businesses and other economic activities.

Touching on the road network, Mr Gattor said discussions and preparations were also underway towards the rehabilitation of some of the deteriorated roads within the electoral area.

He said improved roads would facilitate the movement of people and goods, support local economic activity and enhance residents’ access to healthcare, education and other essential services.

The Assembly Member said the community engagement was important to ensure that residents remained informed about efforts being made on their behalf and had the opportunity to contribute to decisions concerning the development of the electoral area.

He assured the residents that he would continue to engage the relevant authorities and development partners on the issues and provide updates as progress was made.

Mr Gattor expressed appreciation to Mrs Victoria Dzeklo, District Chief Executive for South Tongu, for her administration’s support and cooperation on development matters affecting the electoral area.

He also acknowledged Mr Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, Member of Parliament for South Tongu, for his contribution to development initiatives within the constituency.
