Asawinso Community Bank PLC institutes scholarship scheme for shareholders’ children

Sefwi Asawinso (WN/R), Oct. 03, GNA – The Asawinso Community Bank PLC has instituted a scholarship scheme to support the children of shareholders within its catchment areas.  

The initiative is aimed at providing financial assistance to brilliant but needy children of shareholders to enable them to pursue their educational aspirations.  

Mr Anokye Asare, the Chairman of the Bank, disclosed this at the Bank’s 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Sefwi Asawinso, under the theme: “Sustainability and Growth.”  

He said the Bank’s performance had recorded significant improvements in profitability, financial strength and shareholder value, describing its transformation from a loss-making institution into a stronger organisation as one of its notable achievements.  

According to him, the Bank delivered strong growth and profitability during the year under review, with profit before tax increasing significantly to GH¢5,746,845, representing a 211 per cent increase from the previous year’s figure of GH¢1,847,716.  

He attributed the growth in profitability to the Bank’s continued focus on revenue enhancement, prudent cost management, operational efficiency and effective financial management  

Mr Asare said the measures also contributed to a 34 per cent growth in total assets, reflecting an expansion in the Bank’s financial capacity and overall business operations.  

He noted that over the past three years, the Bank had recorded remarkable growth in its financial position, with total assets increasing from GH¢55,252,636 in 2023 to GH¢158,666,762 in 2025, representing approximately 187 per cent growth.  

Customer deposits also increased from GH¢55,321,534 in 2023 to GH¢153,409,679 in 2025, representing an increase of approximately 177 per cent, he added.  

Mr Asare said the growth in customer deposits reflected increasing confidence in the Bank and the effectiveness of its deposit mobilisation strategies.  

He said the Bank’s strong performance and transformation had attracted significant local and international recognition, saying the bank and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Kwasi Ameyaw, received several awards in recognition of the financial performance, leadership, innovation and contribution to the rural and community banking sector.  

Among the recognitions received were the Most Outstanding in Rural and Community Banking Services Award, 2026, in Ghana, Excellence in Rural Banking Services and Innovative Structure Award 2026, Ghana Most Influential People Awards 2026, 100 Ghana Legendary Honours Leadership Conference and Recognition Awards, and Rural Bank of the Year 2026.  

Other international recognitions included the African Most Respected CEOs Awards 2026, held in Lusaka, Zambia, 100 Legendary African Dignitaries’ Leadership Awards 2026, in Kigali, Rwanda, and the 100 African Most Influential Persons Awards, 2026, also held in Kigali.  

Mr Asare said the recognitions underscored the Bank’s growing contribution to financial inclusion, rural banking and socio-economic development in the communities it served.  

Mr Kwasi Ameyaw, CEO of Asawinso Community Bank PLC, attributed the bank’s prudent financial performance to the hard work, dedication and determination of management and staff.  

He also commended shareholders and other stakeholders for their tremendous contributions towards increasing their shareholdings to help the bank meet the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) new minimum capital requirement of GH¢5 million by December 31, 2026, up from the previous requirement of GH¢1 million.  

Mr Ameyaw said the Bank of Ghana’s new reforms transforming rural and community banks would go a long way to strengthen their capital base and enhance their capacity to provide quality financial services to customers.  

He appealed to cocoa farmers, traders, business owners, and individuals to transact business with Asawinso Community Bank PLC and take advantage of the various products and services offered by the bank.  

He assured customers and prospective clients of the bank’s commitment to providing reliable and quality banking services to support their financial and business needs.
