Agenda 111 Hospital project: Berekum West Assembly compensates affected farmers

By Benjamin Asomah

Jinijini, (Bono), Oct. 27, GNA-The Berekum West District Assembly in the Bono Region has disbursed GH¢180,000 compensation to some farmers who were affected by the construction of the ‘Agenda 111’ district hospital project in the area.

The previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration commenced construction work on the district hospital project affecting 22 farmers and denying them their economic livelihoods.

Speaking at a presentation ceremony at Jinijini, the district capital, Mr Collins Asomah, the Berekum West District Chief Executive regretted that the affected farmers who lost their lands and properties sought court injunction for work to stall on the project.

Mr Asomah and Mr Dickson Kyere Duah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West Constituency facilitated the disbursement of the compensation.

He said the farmers demanded GH¢360,000 compensation, adding that upon negotiation, the farmers agreed to accept 50 percent of the compensation.

Mr Asomah alleged that previous administration left behind debts and court cases in the execution of projects, including the construction of a District Police Station project.

He expressed worry that efforts being made to obtain relevant documents covering those projects had been unsuccessful.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the government for the payment of the compensation and expressed the hope that their arrears would be paid as soon as possible.
