Accra, Oct. 25, GNA – Mr Harry Akoto, the incumbent Ablekuma-North chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has retained his seat in the party’s constituency elections held at Odorkor in Accra on Saturday.
He polled 1,067 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Clifford Mensah Adjei, who secured 922 votes.
Nadia Gifty Tetteh, the incumbent Constituency Secretary, also retained her position with 1,562 votes, beating her sole contender, Samuel Addo, who polled 405 votes.
Andrews Lamptey won the Organiser position, while Summertime Ampong was elected Treasurer.
Samuel Annan was elected Communications Officer, while Nancy Nkansah won the Women Organiser position.
Mr Kalamu Musah Adamu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma-North, described the exercise as peaceful, saying voting and the subsequent counting and declaration of results proceeded without major incidents.
He said the youth and women’s wings completed their elections before the main constituency elections began between 1130 and 1200 hours.
Voting ended around 1700 to 1730 hours, after which sorting and counting began for the declaration of results.
Mr Adamu urged both successful and unsuccessful candidates to support the elected executives, emphasising that the contest was an internal party exercise aimed at strengthening the NDC.
He said the party had engaged the candidates ahead of the elections and encouraged the winners to reach out to those who lost to promote unity.
Mr Adamu said the NDC was targeting to retain the Ablekuma-North parliamentary seat in the 2028 general election, adding that the constituency had historically been won by the New Patriotic Party for 28 years before the NDC secured it in 2024.
He said the party would intensify its organisation and mobilisation efforts to retain the seat.
The constituency elections form part of the NDC’s internal reorganisation to renew its leadership structures and elect executives to coordinate party activities at the local level.
The newly elected executives are expected to lead the party’s organisation and mobilisation efforts in the constituency.
