1,568 trained lawyers called to the Bar

Accra, Oct. 9, GNA – A total of 1,568 trained legal professionals were on Friday called to the Bar after completing their professional legal training.

The figure is the highest recorded at the 63rd call to the Bar ceremony, up from 824 in 2025.

The increase comes amid reforms by the General Legal Council to decentralise legal education and expand access to professional legal training nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie urged the new lawyers not to confuse the speed of information with sound judgement.

“Do not allow the speed of information to become your judgement. The most important currency of a lawyer is not money, not even knowledge. It is integrity,” he said.

Those called to the Bar included Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, and Mr Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communication and Digital Technology.

Media personalities admitted included Mr Umaru Sanda Amadu of Citi TV and Ms Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku of Media General, and Ato Kwamena Dadzie, a veteran journalist.
