Accra, Sept. 11, GNA – Ghanaian music duo Yomi Boiz have reached a major milestone with their latest single, Chioma, which has garnered more than 484,000 streams on Audiomack since its release.
The Afrobeat-Amapiano fusion track, released on July 1, 2026, continues to enjoy growing popularity among music lovers in Ghana and beyond, exceeding the expectations of the University of Ghana-based duo.
Describing the response to the song as overwhelming, the duo said Chioma was inspired by campus romance and celebrates a woman portrayed as beautiful, loyal and genuine.
The song achieved more than 300,000 streams within weeks of its release, a feat the independent artistes consider remarkable given the absence of record label support.
“We believed in the song, but we didn’t expect 300K so quickly. We knew it was a great record, but the love has been overwhelming. Ghana, Nigeria, students, everyone is vibing. God did,” they added.
The success of Chioma marks another step in the growth of the duo, made up of cousins Appiah Daniel, known in music circles as Locomotion, and Anim Ansong Albert, popularly called Kwaku Trappa.
The pair officially formed Yomi Boiz in 2019 while studying at the University of Ghana, although their passion for music began much earlier through church activities, school performances and freestyle sessions at home in their hometown of Asamankese.
Locomotion is known for delivering melodies and catchy hooks, while Kwaku Trappa contributes rap verses and street-inspired energy. Together, they blend Afrobeat, Amapiano and Ghanaian Drill, drawing inspiration from themes of love, faith, student life and everyday struggles.
Before their latest streaming achievement, the duo had already earned recognition in the Eastern Region. In 2023, they won Hip-life Song of the Year at the Asamankese Music Awards Night with their song Angelina and later secured the Music Group of the Year award at the Akim Achiase Awards.
The duo’s growing presence on campus has earned them performance opportunities, including the university’s EVA Night, and a feature on Adom TV’s entertainment programme hosted by Sister Sandy, where they shared their musical journey and performed some of their songs.
Despite their growing success, Yomi Boiz continue to balance their music careers with their academic pursuits.
According to the duo, their early years in music were marked by financial difficulties, forcing them to record songs on mobile phones, use free instrumentals and, at times, share a single microphone.
They believe those challenges helped build the discipline, determination and consistency that have sustained their partnership for the past seven years.
With Chioma continuing to attract streams, Yomi Boiz are aiming to sustain the momentum through the release of an official music video, a collaborative EP and performances on larger platforms.
The duo also hopes to secure a record deal that aligns with their creative vision while inspiring young people to pursue their artistic ambitions without neglecting their education.
From Asamankese to Legon, Yomi Boiz are optimistic that the success of Chioma would open doors to wider recognition across Ghana and the international music scene.
