Accra, Sep.11, GNA -The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has confirmed a 13-member contingent of young athletes who will represent the country in nine disciplines at the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal
Under the official theme: “Africa Welcomes, Dakar Celebrates, this year’s competition would be the first-ever Olympic event to be staged on African soil.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said athletes will be competing in Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Beach Volleyball, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis and Swimming in a display of the nation’s rising multi-sport talent.
The Olympic body further stated that it had completed the necessary administrative arrangements to ensure Ghana would be well-prepared to compete and deliver a strong performance at the event.
“With 50 days to the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, the GOC is working closely with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, national sports federations, and corporate partners to finalize pre-games training schedules, delegation logistics, and official send-off arrangements in Accra ahead of team departure,” it said.
GOC appealed to Corporate Ghana, sports enthusiasts and the public to support the team as they represent the nation from October 31 to November 13, 2026.
Ghana has participated in all three Youth Olympics since 2010 in Singapore, Nanjing in 2014 and Buenos Aires in 2018.
The West African giants head into the global event with one medal since its debut in 2010, courtesy of Martha Bissah’s gold in the women’s 800m.
She remains Ghana’s sole Youth Olympic champion, leaving the 13-member contingent with a clear mission to end the wait for another medal and etch a new chapter in the country’s Youth Olympic history.
