Kpone, Sept. 28, GNA – Mr Joseph Akuerteh Tettey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone-Katamanso, and Mr Samuel Tetteh Quarshie Morton, Kpone-Katamanso Chief Executive, have inspected ongoing construction works on the Kpone-Katamanso 24-hour market at Gbetsile to assess progress.
The project, currently at the foundation stage, comprises three main blocks: A, B and C.
Mr Tettey described the inspection as important in identifying and addressing potential challenges at the early stages of construction and ensuring that the contractor and consultant adhered to the required standards.
“This is a very important project for the government. We want to ensure the right things are done from the beginning rather than waiting to correct mistakes at a later stage,” he said.
He acknowledged concerns about the poor condition of the access roads to the project site and said discussions were ongoing with the Ministry of Roads and Highways and other relevant stakeholders to improve the road network to complement the project.
Mr Morton highlighted the strategic location of the market, saying its proximity to key communities would make it easily accessible.
He said the location connected communities such as Zenu, Appolonia and Kpone, making it an ideal central point for the 24-hour market.
Mr Issah Salim, the Project Contractor, said construction activities were currently concentrated on Block A.
“We are done with the excavation of the foundation, completed the blinding concrete, and we are currently setting out the columns for Block A,” he said.
Mr Salim said when completed, the facility would comprise lockable shops, market sheds, warehouses, a food court, a livestock bay and a waste management site.
It would also have a mini-clinic, fire station, police station and daycare facility to provide health, safety and other essential services to traders and visitors.
