Wenchi Municipal Assembly begins installation of solar streetlights

Wenchi (Bono), Sept. 17, GNA – The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has commenced the installation of solar-powered streetlights to improve security in the municipality. 

Madam Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, said a total of 144 solar-powered streetlights would be installed at strategic locations in Wenchi and parts of the municipality. 

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of an installation exercise at Wenchi, she said the streetlights would be installed along the Offuman Road at the VRA Junction near the Wenchi Methodist University. 

She said others would be installed at the Saabo Market, off the Municipal Health Directorate Road; the Agric Research Junction linking to the Offuman Road; and along the Wenchi Methodist Hospital Road between the Methodist Church and the Wenchi Astro Turf Park. 

Madam Gyamfi said the initiative was aimed at enhancing nighttime security and boosting local economic activities in the area. 

She said the project was being funded by the government through the Ministry of Energy.
