Agblonu (V/R), Sept. 21, GNA – Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, has commissioned a solar-powered mechanised borehole at Agblonu in the Akatsi North District as part of activities marking his birthday.
The facility, equipped with a 3-kilowatt solar power system and a 10,000-litre overhead storage tank, is expected to improve access to potable water for residents of Agblonu and surrounding communities.
Commissioning the facility, Mr Gunu said he had chosen to mark his birthday by contributing to the development and wellbeing of the people rather than making the occasion solely about personal celebration.
He said birthdays provided an opportunity to reflect on life, express gratitude and give back to society, particularly through initiatives that addressed basic needs and improved the living conditions of communities.
“For me, birthdays are not only about celebration but also about giving back and making a meaningful difference in the lives of our people,” he said.
Mr Gunu said access to safe and reliable water remained essential to public health, sanitation and the socio-economic development of communities, adding that the facility would help reduce the challenges residents faced in accessing potable water.
He expressed gratitude to the people of the Volta Region for their prayers, goodwill, and support on his birthday, saying their goodwill strengthened his commitment to public service.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and remain committed to supporting initiatives that improve lives and advance development across the Volta Region,” he said.
The Regional Minister said he would continue to work with the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs), traditional authorities, development partners and communities to identify and support initiatives that addressed critical development needs.
Mr Bless Kojo Katamani, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akatsi North, expressed gratitude to the Regional Minister for supporting the provision of the facility, saying access to potable water was critical to the health and wellbeing of residents.
He said the intervention demonstrated the importance of collaboration between the Regional Coordinating Council and the District Assembly in addressing development challenges at the community level.
Mr Katamani commended the initiative and appealed to the people of Agblonu to take ownership of the facility, ensure its proper maintenance and use it responsibly to ensure its sustainability.
The commissioning brought together residents, traditional leaders, Assembly officials and other stakeholders, who expressed appreciation for the intervention.
