Sunyani, (Bono), Sept 28, GNA-About 400 heads and teachers of kindergarten and proprietors in Sunyani East and West municipalities have undergone a two-week intensive in-service training to strengthen early childhood education (ECD).
They were selected from private basic schools in the two municipalities and were taken through the new KG curriculum to strengthen foundational learning and to equip the learners with 21st Century Skills, Values, and Ethics.
Sabre Education, a Non-Governmental Organization engaged in early childhood development education in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) organized the training programme.
Mr Theophilus Cudjoe, Senior Programes Officer at Sabre Education, said the training was meant to strengthen classroom activities in the schools, especially the private ones.
He noted that many teachers in private schools lacked basic level and professional teaching backgrounds, hence the need to guide them in teaching and shaping the learners in their early stages of formal education.
Mr Godwin Addo, an Assistant Programme Officer at Sabre Education, explained that the revised curriculum consisted of information, abilities, preparation and programs the learners required.
He noted that early childhood education had become the world’s fastest growing field and that the revised curriculum would help address learning gaps in the educational sector.
