Viepe (V/R), Sept. 15, GNA — Fifteen-year-old Grace Elorm Atisu, the overall best-performing candidate in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ketu South Municipality, has advised younger students to take their lessons seriously and pay close attention in class.
She urged students to avoid using lesson periods to play, saying attentive learning and commitment to their studies could help them achieve better academic results.
“Students should focus in class and should not use lesson time to play,” she advised.
Grace, a former student of Footprint International School at Laklivikope, emerged as the Municipality’s best candidate with an impressive Aggregate 9 among 4,845 BECE graduates.
She gave the advice, when she spoke to the media during a ceremony organised to support the 300 best BECE graduates in the Municipality, funded by the Akonta Foundation, led by Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta, also known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, Youth and Developmental Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area.
Explaining the approach that contributed to her performance, Grace said she paid close attention to everything her teachers taught during lessons.
She recalled that during a Science lesson, her teacher discussed an issue that was not directly related to the main topic being taught.
Although the discussion was outside the main lesson, she listened carefully and later encountered the same issue in the BECE examination, which enabled her to answer the question correctly.
Grace said the experience reinforced the importance of listening attentively in class and encouraged younger students to make effective use of lesson periods.
She also attributed her achievement to the guidance and support of her parents and teachers, acknowledging their contributions to her academic success.
The 15-year-old, who has gained admission to Achimota Senior High School, pledged to work harder at the Senior High School level and assured Torgbui Tenuvi that she would make good use of the support provided to her.
Mr Kofi Atisu, Grace’s father, expressed pride in his daughter’s achievement, describing her emergence as the best BECE graduate in the Municipality as remarkable.
He said Grace was a humble child who listened to her parents and took her responsibilities seriously.
According to him, whenever she was given an assignment by her school, she made completing it a priority before attending to other requests.
Mr Atisu encouraged children to listen to their parents and teachers, saying discipline, commitment and proper guidance could contribute to academic success.
He also appealed to parents to provide discipline and guidance for their children and correct them when necessary.
He expressed gratitude to Torgbui Tenuvi and the Akonta Foundation for supporting the best BECE graduates, saying the intervention had helped reduce the financial burden on parents as their children prepared to continue their education at the Senior High School level.
