Geneva, Aug 31. (dpa/GNA) – Swiss police have arrested a suspect, in connection with a shooting at a rave at the weekend, that left a 22-year-old Italian woman dead and five others injured.
The suspect is a 43-year-old Swiss national, police said on Monday, adding that investigators believe he acted alone. Further details were to be released later in the day, they said.
A manhunt was launched after the shooting early on Sunday, at a horse-racing track in the town of Aarau.
Five people aged between 24 and 31 were injured, including a German woman. All those injured are out of danger, a police spokeswoman told dpa. All those affected live in Switzerland.
Police have called on attendees and local residents to provide mobile phone videos from that night, hoping they will shed light on how the incident unfolded.
Police had said on Sunday they were investigating all possible lines of inquiry. Options examined included a possible terrorist attack, a rampage and a possible settling of scores in a criminal milieu, said the region’s police chief, Michael Leupold. He said he believed the victims had been targeted at random, and those involved had not known each other.
The party, attended by around 3,500 people, had already ended when the shots were fired. However, more than 100 people were still on the grounds at the time.
Based on findings so far, shots were fired at two different locations using two weapons.
Different shell casings were found at the scene, consistent with a pistol or submachine gun, as well as an assault rifle.
