Dodowa (GA/R), Sept. 25, GNA – The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly has begun reshaping roads in Ramatown and Flatland following concerns from residents about longstanding poor road conditions and limited access to some parts of those communities.
The exercise, being undertaken in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Ms Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, is expected to improve movement for motorists, pedestrians, residents and facilitate social and economic life of the people.
Mr Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Shai-Osudoku District, disclosed this to the media, saying the Assembly began the intervention after repairing its grader that had been broken down.
He said the Assembly had been engaging community stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, women, youth and residents, as part of efforts to address the road challenges.
According to him, Ramatown has an estimated 40-kilometre road network, with about three kilometres already receiving attention under the current exercise.
Mr Dordoe explained that the intervention was not limited to reshaping existing roads but also included filling in of potholes and creation of new access routes to homes and other areas that had become difficult to reach.
He noted that sections of Flatland were receiving particular attention because of the terrain and accessibility difficulties residents faced.
“Apart from the reshaping and spot improvement, we are also creating new access roads. As we’ve started, we will finish,” the DCE assured residents.
He added that the work would continue progressively, with other sections expected to be addressed as the exercise advanced.
He commended residents of Ramatown and Flatland for their patience and cooperation during delays in addressing the road situation.
Some residents welcomed the commencement of the exercise, saying the intervention could ease movement and improve access to parts of the communities that had become difficult to reach.
They expressed hope that the Assembly would sustain the exercise until the major road challenges in the area were fully addressed.
