President Mahama to hold high-level meeting on border security, narcotics control

Accra, Sept 17, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama will today, Thursday, September 17, hold a high-level meeting with heads of security agencies at 1200 hours at the Jubilee House.  

This is to discuss measures to strengthen Ghana’s border security and prevent the trafficking of narcotic drugs and other illicit substances through the country’s ports, airports and land borders.  

Dr Callus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President in letter address to the heads of security agencies and some Ministers of State, said the meeting would review existing vulnerabilities, intelligence-sharing arrangements, cargo and passenger-screening systems, inter-agency coordination, and the deployment of technology to detect and disrupt narcotics trafficking.   

It said each institution should be represented by its head, accompanied by no more than one relevant technical officer.   

It noted that participants should come prepared to provide a brief assessment of existing security gaps and propose practical measures to improve intelligence sharing, surveillance, screening, and joint enforcement operations.  

It said given the urgency and national-security implications; their personal attendance was required.
