Tortibo (E/R), Sept. 17, GNA – Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has announced that Government will recruit an additional 10,000 teachers nationwide after the presentation of the 2027 Budget, when the recruitment portal will be opened.

He said 500 positions would be reserved for teachers of Ghanaian languages, while another 500 would be allocated to persons with disabilities.

A further 500 to 1,000 teachers would be posted to deprived communities.

“Government has taken a decision to review the deployment of teachers. The problem is sometimes not availability, but that teachers are concentrated where we need fewer of them,” he said.

Adding, “We are going to review teacher deployment across the country to ensure deprived areas are adequately served”.

The Minister was speaking at the commissioning of a three-unit JHS classroom block at Tortibo in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

He further stated that Government would also introduce digital skills, artificial intelligence (AI), electronics, robotics and coding into foundational learning at the basic level to prepare pupils for a rapidly changing technological world.

Mr Iddrisu added that sod would be cut between October and November for the Teacher Dabere (Teachers’ Accommodation) Initiative.

This, he said, would be implemented by the District Assemblies Common Fund under the supervision of the Ministries of Education, Local Government, and Works and Housing.
