Kumasi, Sept. 25, GNA – Through sustained, intelligence-led operation, the Ashanti Regional Police command, has arrested two key suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure, a Senegalese goalkeeper, in Kumasi in October 2025.
The suspects, Salifu Walid, a 32-year-old Nigerien, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24-year-old Burkinabe national, were arrested from their hideouts at Bampenase, near Mamponteng on Thursday, September 23, 2026.
A police statement issued in Kumasi said, suggest that the two suspects were members of a four-member sundicate believed to have masterminded the kidnapping and killing of Toure.
The police said on October 16, 2025, a group of individuals, who claimed to be brothers of the deceased goalkeeper, brought him to the Manhyia government hospital with multiple abdominal injuries, insisting that, the victim had been involved in an accident.
The victim was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival.
The suspects subsequently deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, before fleeing the scene.
The police said the suspects were part of a group, who posed as football scout agents and exploited online networks to lure unsuspecting people into the country.
It added that, during the interrogation, both suspects admitted involvement in the crime, outlining their respective roles in drawing the deceased into the country, as part of a scheme to defraud him.
The statement further said efforts had been intensified to apprehend other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, who were currently at large and believed to have played central roles in the group’s operations.
The police said the two suspects were currently in police custody and would be processed for court.
