Dormaa-Ahenkro (Bono), Sept. 15, GNA – Pastor Isaac Owusu Boansi, Head Pastor of the Dormaa-Ahenkro Jesus Saviour of the World Church (JSOW) in the Bono Region, has cautioned Christians against the ‘get-rich-quick’ syndrome that is increasingly taking over society.
“We must avoid the trappings and temptations of seeking riches that can ruin our faith and lives,” he advised.
Pastor Boansi gave the advice when delivering a sermon on the theme, “Labour not to be rich,” at a church service in Dormaa-Ahenkro.
He emphasised that the struggles associated with the desire to get rich quickly often had consequences that could lead people into fraudulent and mischievous schemes, deceit and other dishonest undertakings.
“Struggles that come with the desire to get rich quick often have consequences which may draw us into engaging in fraudulent, mischievous schemes, deceit and dishonest undertakings,” he said.
Instead, Pastor Boansi entreated Christians to build and deepen their faith in God by “seeking the higher dimensions of God’s opportunities and blessings and not wearing ourselves out to be rich”.
He said divine blessings went beyond money, stressing that “there’s a difference between riches and blessings, and ill-gotten riches can cut your life short”.
Pastor Boansi added that life should not be viewed as a competition for material gains, but rather with the understanding that everyone could reach a level where he or she was content with what they had.
He implored the congregation to labour for the wisdom of God and guard their hearts against the temptation of desiring to be rich at all costs.
Pastor Boansi also called on Christians to adopt a positive outlook on life, saying, “We must know and understand that God has time for everyone.”
He stressed that although money and wealth were good, Christians ought not to strain themselves in pursuit of riches, adding: “It is only the blessing of the Lord that makes us rich and adds no sorrow to it.”
