Accra, Sept. 24, GNA – The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has intensified risk management efforts across its directorates and zonal offices, urging staff to take ownership of risks and proactively safeguard operations and service delivery.
The initiative forms part of activities marking the 2026 Risk Awareness Week, being observed from Tuesday, September 22 to Friday, September 25, on the theme: “Building a Risk–Smart ORC: Strengthening Resilience, Accountability and Service Excellence.”
The four-day programme, seeks to deepen staff understanding of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and promote a culture where risks were identified early, discussed openly and appropriately managed or mitigated before they adversely affect the organisation.
Also, it was expected to strengthen the organisation’s preparedness to address emerging risks and minimise disruptions to its operations, thereby supporting improved service delivery and public confidence in the company registration and compliance services it provides.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mrs. Maame Samma Peprah, the Registrar of Companies, said risk management was integral to the ORC’s mandate and therefore required the active participation of staff at all levels.
She said creating awareness about operational risks and taking timely steps to mitigate them were essential to protecting the organisation’s resources, reputation and capacity to provide quality services to the public.
The Registrar emphasised that effective risk management could not be left to one department or a selected group of staff, but required a collective effort across directorates, units and zonal offices.
“The public depends on us for reliable company registration, accurate records, effective compliance services and timely support,” she said.
She added that for the ORC to deliver those services effectively, staff must recognise risks that could disrupt their work, undermine public confidence or prevent the organisation from achieving its objectives.
Mrs. Peprah called on directorate, zonal and unit heads, serving as risk owners and risk champions, to understand the risks associated with their respective areas of work and ensure that agreed controls and mitigation measures were implemented.
She also urged them to keep risk discussions active and support the early identification and reporting of emerging risks.
The Registrar said risk considerations must become part of the organisation’s everyday decision-making and activities rather than being addressed only after risks had materialised.
She, therefore, called on staff to place ownership and accountability at the centre of the ORC’s risk management agenda.
Mr. Prince Kakah, the Head of Internal Audit and Risk Coordinator, said the Governing Board was committed to integrating Enterprise Risk Management into the organisation’s daily operations.
He said the Board’s approach went beyond the development and implementation of policy documents, stressing the need for risk awareness to influence how staff planned, executed and evaluated their assigned duties.
Mr. Kakah said the Risk Awareness Week was, therefore, designed to promote awareness and provide staff with practical knowledge and understanding of risk management.
Some activities earmarked for the week include an opening and staff engagement session, directorate risk engagements and a risk awareness campaign, a health, wellness and organisational resilience talk, as well as a risk management educational symposium and awards ceremony.
Mr Kakah said the awards ceremony would provide an opportunity to recognise and appreciate staff and teams that demonstrated strong risk management practices in the workplace.
The opening ceremony brought together Mr. Benjamin Zigorsh-Nyakpenu, Deputy Registrar of Companies; heads of directorates, risk owners, risk champions, and other staff of the ORC.
Heads and staff of the ORC’s zonal offices in Kumasi, Sunyani, Sekondi and Tamale also participated virtually in the ceremony.
