Awutu Bereku (C/R), Sept 13, GNA – The Awutu-Senya District Assembly has re-elected Mr Francis Yaovi as the Presiding Member (PM) for another two years,A in an election held during the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Fifth Assembly at Awutu Bereku, the district capital.
The election was supervised by a team from the Awutu-Senya District Directorate of Electoral Commission led by Linda F Owusu.
Mr Yaovi, the incumbent, was the sole candidate at the end of nomination, with 30 of the 34 Assembly Members present, endorsing him.
Madam Annie Adobor, the Justice of Awutu Magistrate’s Court, swore him into office after he had taken the oath of allegiance, and office, and later advised him not to abuse the trust the house had reposed on him, but to bring on board all the members.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Yaovi thanked all and promised that he would continue to cooperate with them, the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area for the socio-economic advancement of Awutuman.
Mr Eghan Kalala Nyamekye, DCE, expressed his appreciation to the members for exhibiting maturity in re-electing the PM, and called for unity among the members.
Without unity and understanding, he stated, it would be very difficult for the members to undertake development projects due the area, and urged them to give the PM the needed support and assistance to enable him to operate effectively.
The MCE said last year the Assembly executed a number of projects and programmes including the construction of boreholes, school buildings, health facilities, reshaping of internal roads for free flow of goods and services, and the distribution of items to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
Madam Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, the MP for the Area, commended the members for the confidence reposed in Mr Yaovi and assured the house that she would continue to execute her duties to better the lots of all persons in Awutu.
She urged them to continue to support her with their expertise for them to reach their common goal of developing the Area.
Madam Agbotui who is also the Deputy Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, said every community would receive their share of the national cake, hence the need for them to also contribute their quota in the interest of the electorates they represented.
The meeting was attended by heads of department and institutions, traditional leaders and a cross section of the citizenry.
