Nkwanta (O/R), Sept. 17, GNA – The Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly in the Oti Region has commissioned a newly completed three-unit classroom block with a Kindergarten (KG) facility and a teachers’ bungalow at Nkpaya, a farming community.
The project forms part of efforts to improve education infrastructure and standards in rural communities.
Pupils and teachers in Nkpaya had for years grappled with inadequate classroom infrastructure, which affected teaching and learning and limited academic progress.
The new facilities are expected to provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, improve school attendance, and enhance access to quality education for children in Nkpaya and surrounding communities.
Mr Joseph Awal Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, reaffirmed the commitment of the government and the Assembly to ensuring that children in rural communities benefited from decent educational infrastructure.
He said the project should not be seen merely as a set of buildings but as a strategic investment to raise the overall standard of education in the municipality.
The MCE said the combination of classrooms and teacher accommodation was critical to creating a stable learning environment.
He explained that providing accommodation for teachers would support staff retention and punctuality, while improved classrooms would help learners to thrive.
Mr Antwi urged community members to take ownership of the facility and protect it, saying proper maintenance would extend its lifespan and ensure that it continued to serve future generations.
Mr Christian Ogudi, Human Resource Manager at the Municipal Education Directorate, speaking on behalf of the Education Directorate, commended the Assembly for prioritising school improvement and described the new infrastructure as timely and impactful.
He said the facility would serve not only Nkpaya but also create opportunities for school-going children in nearby farming communities who had long faced challenges accessing suitable learning spaces.
He encouraged parents and pupils to take full advantage of the improved facilities and work towards better academic outcomes.
Torgbe Kakotse Samuel, Chief of the community, expressed gratitude and relief, saying the commissioning marked a major turning point after years of struggling to secure such facilities for the children.
He thanked the government, the Municipal Assembly, and the Member of Parliament for responding to the community’s needs but appealed for more development.
