Nandom (UW/R), Sept. 4, GNA – Mr Alois Mohl, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart in the Nandom Constituency, has declared his intention to contest the Party’s parliamentary primaries in a bid to revive the spirit of members to reclaim the parliamentary seat.
He said his decision to contest is driven by his concern for the future of the NPP in the constituency and the development of the Constituency, particularly following the Party’s defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Mr Mohl, who made the declaration at an event in Nandom to declare his intention to contest the primary, said the Nandom Constituency branch of the NPP can bounce back stronger with the right leadership.
Some traditional leaders, party elders, executives, and scores of members as well as well-wishers attended the event, which was characterised by great euphoria among the participants.
Mr Mohl indicated that his immediate priority, if he is elected as the parliamentary candidate, would be to rebuild unity within the Party, strengthen its grassroots structures, and position it to reclaim the Nandom parliamentary seat in 2028.
“I am here today because I believe we need a leader who listens, acts, and delivers real results. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive future for our party, and for our dear Nandom.
Today, our party is in a frightening state of disunity, and yet its history of resilience gives us great hope that, with the right leadership, we can, and we will, bounce back stronger, and be ready to take back the Nandom seat and make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the President in 2029”, he said.
He paid tribute to the founding fathers of the NPP in the Nandom Constituency, including KBR Valentine, Gbeck, Marcel Barekuu, Chairman Kachuku and Sammy Mwinbelle, among others, for their sacrifices in establishing the Party in the constituency in 1992.
Mr Mohl said his grassroots mobilisation efforts contributed to the NPP’s growing support in the constituency and its victory over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2008.
He said, for instance, that his “persuasive and charming presence” in the NPP and efforts in helping to resolve some traditional disputes attracted some key members of the NDC to cross carpet to the NPP.
Mr Mohl said despite his contribution to the growth of the Party, particularly in the constituency, he suffered humiliations, ridicule, and accusations during the 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 elections that he was working against the NPP’s parliamentary candidates.
He indicated the accusations caused the termination of his appointment as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) in 2022 and subsequent disqualification from the Nandom parliamentary primaries in 2023.
He said, despite those accusations and ill-treatment he had suffered, he remained committed and continued to serve the party, particularly at the national level.
He, however, reiterated his innocence of the allegations and that some notable persons within the party were party to the accusations and his disqualification, had since apologised to him.
