Nkwanta (O/R), Sept 18, GNA – Mr Geoffrey Kini, the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South Constituency in the Oti Region has donated more than 200 trunks and mattresses to students, who gained admission to the four Senior High Schools in the Municipality.
It aimed to encourage enrolment and restore confidence in education following years of unrest in the area.
The beneficiary schools are Nkwanta Senior High School, Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Kyabobo Girls Senior High School, and Ntruboman Senior High School.
The MP explained that the donation was aimed at motivating students and parents to continue choosing schools within the municipality despite the challenges the area has faced in recent years because of insecurity.
He said peace was gradually returning to the area, and stakeholders were working tirelessly to ensure that educational activities continued without disruption.
He stressed that investing in the education of young people remained a priority and called on parents to have confidence in the local schools.
The MP urged parents and guardians to enroll their children in schools within the municipality, assuring them that the security situation had improved significantly and that authorities were committed to protecting students and staff.
Mr Joseph Awal Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, also reiterated the commitment of the assembly and security agencies to safeguarding all students in the area
He assured parents that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety and well-being of students on campus.
Mr Antwi encouraged parents not to be discouraged by past incidents, emphasising that the municipality was steadily returning to normalcy and remained a safe place for teaching and learning.
Mr Christian Ogudi, a representative, who received the donation on behalf of the Municipal Education Directorate, thanked the MP and the MCE for their continuous support towards the improvement of education in the municipality.
He said the donation would go a long way to lift some burdens off parents and at the same time motivate others to stay and continue their education within the municipality.
Some parents also expressed their excitement and appreciation to the MP for such a gesture, especially during their difficult moments like this due to the conflict that has affected their livelihoods.
