Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has directed the formation of an inter-agency task force to develop a roadmap to prevent drug trafficking through Ghana’s borders.
The task force is expected to present a detailed roadmap within two weeks, based on recommendations from a meeting the President chaired with security chiefs on Thursday.
The President received detailed briefing on investigations into recent drug trafficking cases involving some of Ghana’s ports, a statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications said.
The meeting also reviewed the security structures and systems in place,
Ten individuals, including four officers of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), were being held while investigations continued, the statement noted.
It said the President received a detailed briefing on the investigations, underscoring the Government’s efforts to address drug trafficking through the country’s borders.
The meeting, it said, also recommended new actions to strengthen security systems and prevent the trafficking of drugs through Ghana’s borders.
