Kpando (V/R), Sept. 17, GNA – The Kpando Municipal Assembly has commissioned four development projects aimed at improving education, healthcare and security infrastructure in the Municipality.
The projects, commissioned by Mr Killian Donkor, the Municipal Chief Executive, included the rehabilitation of the Municipal Police Headquarters at Tsakpe Newtown, a six-unit classroom block at Abanu, nurses’ quarters at Togorme, and a completed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound with staff quarters at Dzigbe.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, Mr Donkor said, the Assembly was also distributing school furniture, including desks, chairs and tables, to selected schools such as Adorfe Primary, Gabi M/A and Abanu M/A.
He said the interventions formed part of efforts to eliminate schools under trees and provide pupils with safe and conducive learning environments.
Mr Donkor said the Assembly was renovating dilapidated educational facilities and constructing new classroom blocks where necessary, with completed facilities being equipped with electricity, proper lighting, ceiling fans, adequate ventilation and furniture.
He disclosed that some projects inherited from previous administrations had also been completed, citing the six-unit classroom block at Gabi, which was started in 2019 but was left uncompleted in 2020.
He added that a six-unit classroom block at Torkor had reached the roofing stage, while another was under construction at Gabi.
Mr Donkor said the municipality had benefited from about 14 GETFund projects in communities including Abanu, Sovie and Kudzra.
Mr Sebastian Deh, the Member of Parliament for Kpando, said education and infrastructure remained key priorities of his leadership.
He said the 14 GETFund projects in the municipality covered basic schools, technical institutions and secondary schools.
Mr Deh stated that the Kpando Secondary School was benefiting from an eight-unit classroom block, while Bishop Herman College had received renovations to its administration and science blocks as well as its dining hall complex.
He said additional efforts were being made to provide workshops, science facilities and other infrastructure to support technical and vocational education.
Commenting on the Abanu project, Mr Deh said the community was among the poorer areas in the municipality and was particularly vulnerable to erosion because of its topography.
He said concerns about roads linking the school to the township would be considered.
He also called for better utilisation and equitable distribution of educational infrastructure, noting that some schools were overcrowded while others had underutilised facilities.
He cited Kudzra, where he said one classroom had as many as 52 pupils, describing the situation as unacceptable.
Mr Deh urged pareschool.support and ensure that their children attend school and received the necessary education .
