Kumasi, Sept. 13, GNA – The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has commended the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) for its contribution to improving specialised healthcare delivery at the hospital within its first year of operation.
The commendation followed the handover of medical equipment and consumables valued at more than GH¢4 million to KATH by the Trust Fund, including a fully equipped Olympus endoscopy tower for gastroscopy and colonoscopy, two jaundice meters, and assorted respiratory, oxygen therapy and anaesthesia consumables.
The donation formed part of a larger consignment donated to the GMTF by Lifecare Technology Ghana.
Ms Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the GMTF, who presented the equipment, said the gesture formed part of activities marking the Fund’s first anniversary and reaffirmed its commitment to equipping health facilities with resources needed to save lives.
She commended the KATH Board, Chief Executive Officer, management and staff for their continued support of the Fund.
Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, KATH Chief Executive Officer, expressed appreciation to the GMTF, saying the donation came at a critical time for the hospital.
He said KATH’s existing endoscopy machine was more than 10 years old and management had been considering spending about GH¢800,000 to replace it.
He said the intervention would enable the hospital to redirect funds earmarked for the replacement to other critical healthcare needs.
“This has really reduced my blood pressure because the monies we were going to spend on these essential items can now be channelled into other services to make sure we deliver premium services to Ghanaians we serve,” he said.
Dr Baidoo also identified the Cardiac Intervention Centre, currently under construction, as one of the major interventions supported by the GMTF.
He said despite KATH’s 70-year history, the hospital had never had such a facility, describing the project as a major milestone in advancing specialised cardiac care in the middle belt of the country.
Reflecting on the Fund’s achievements during its first year, Dr Baidoo said the impact of its interventions made it seem as though the organisation had been operating for decades.
“The interventions the Trust Fund is providing make us feel you have been in existence for 70 years because your impact within just a year feels like you have been here forever,” he said.
Dr Baidoo expressed appreciation to the GMTF and Lifecare Technology Ghana for their support and partnership in improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes at KATH.
