Mahamo (W/R), Sept 18, GNA-Nana Kwabena Gyan II, the Chief of Mahamo has provided assorted items to forty-two Junior High School graduates who have secured admission into Senior High School.
The items worth GH¢150,000.00 included chop boxes, trunks, buckets, cutlasses, sanitary pads, mattresses, and cash.
Beneficiaries with exceptional results received amounts ranging from GH¢1,000. 00 to GH¢ 3,000.00.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, Nana Kwabena Gyan II, stated that since 2014 he had been giving this assistance and called on his colleague chiefs to replicate it.
He said the initiative had encouraged students in his community to study hard, adding that comparing this year’s results to last year’s showed massive improvement.
According to him, six students who chose vocational training were supported with GH¢2,000 each to aid their parents in helping them acquire the skills.
Mr. Ebenezer Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa Nsuaem, lauded the chief of Mahamo, and said the assembly was supposed to take up this task, but out of love for his community, he initiated the programme himself.
Mrs. Catherine Andoh Mensah, Municipal Director of Education, explained that education was costly and required collective efforts rather than leaving it solely on the government.
She added that as the chief’s support had reduced the financial burden on parents, the beneficiaries should strive to make a difference to inspire him to do more.
Nana Ampong Kwasi, the chief of Asikuma Bonsawire, who chaired the function revealed that Mahamo school started with just six pupils, but through the chief’s dedication, the primary one class now have 84 pupils.
According to him, the yearly award to students who did well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) was a source of encouragement to communities in the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area.
