Sunyani, (Bono), Sept. 26, GNA-An inter-community football gala kick-off weekend in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital to commence the 2026 Suncity festival and to mark the 30 years anniversary of the MTN Ghana.
Local football teams from the Sunyani Area One, Sunyani Area Two, Sunyani Newtown, Sunyani Nkwabeng, Sunyani Zongo as well as Kotokrom, Burkinabe communities in the Sunyani Municipality are participating in the gala.
According to the MTN Ghana, the gala, being held at the Twene Amanfo Technical and Senior High School Park in Sunyani, among other activities, reinforced the MTN’s commitment to appreciate customers for their loyalty.
Speaking at the opening session of the football gala, Mr Ransford Antwi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Suncity Group of Companies, the MTN’s local partners advised the teams to remain disciplined and exhibit their skills and talents.
He told the players besides entertainment and rewards, the football gala could open opportunities for the deserving players to nurture, build and develop their football talents elsewhere and even abroad.
Mr Antwi said the Suncity fest was instituted about a decade ago by the MTN and celebrated annually to strengthen the bond of peace between the local communities and served as a key regional platform of MTN connecting with communities and celebrating local culture.
He commended MTN for its dedication in sustaining the celebration of the Suncity Fest and expressed the hope that the fest would be sustained and thereby strengthen the prevailing peace, unearth and nurture the football talents of young people.
Besides other souvenirs and interesting rewards, he added that the MTN had set aside GHC30,000 and GHC20,000 prizes for the first and second positions of the football gala expected to end on October 11, 2026, respectively.
